Hotels
On hotels, mostly ones I stay in.
CCFLs are great but…
CCFLs are a great source of light: more efficient area lights than LEDs and better CRI too and affordable but…
They are not heat lamps.
Note that this CCFL was installed in a hotel bathroom in the heat lamp fixture, operated by the heat lamp timer. You step out of the shower, crank the timer knob and get a nice blast of cool bluish light.
Lapa Palace in Lisbon
Quite lovely, excellent view and an exceptionally helpful staff.
The Pacific from the Delfina
Odd thing, the local high school football field was right next door so I woke to the sound of the marching band trying to figure out Eleanor Rigby.
Winter in Canada
My job takes me to Canada every week lately. It’s always an adventure in the winter, but I haven’t been here absent a snow storm in weeks. Apparently this is the snowiest February in 117 years. Yay.
Holiday Inn On King Patch
The room patch panel at the Holiday Inn on King in Toronto is the best I’ve encountered in a hotel. Watch you tube on the room’s large LCD TV… Play your iPod through the sound system. Free broadband. All hotels should do this.
Red Brick Café, Guelph
As I’m spending more time in Guelph lately than expected, it has been a very good thing to discover the Red Brick Cafe. They have good food items and excellent coffee. No overheated milk and they know the difference between a cappuccino and a latte. With the favorable (to the US) exchange rate, it is a great deal too.
Night in YYZ
The view from our hotel is very nice. They put us on the 20th floor with a balcony overlooking downtown Toronto.

I heart NY
The view from my luxurious hotel in NYC. Only $350 a night or so.
